The Perfect Age for Portraits: Celebrating the Tween Years

The tween years are such a special stage of childhood. Somewhere between being a little kid and becoming a teenager, kids begin discovering their own personalities, interests, and confidence.

At ages 9–12, they are growing quickly, developing their own style, and beginning to show the unique individuals they are becoming. It’s a moment in time that passes faster than we realize — and one that deserves to be captured.

At Laura Ames Portrait Studio, I created the Tween Portrait Experience to celebrate kids during this exciting stage of life.

This portrait experience is designed for both boys and girls, giving them the chance to feel confident, relaxed, and proud of who they are.

Each session includes:

For some kids, this experience feels a little like stepping into a magazine photoshoot. For others, it’s simply a fun opportunity to laugh, move, and express their personality in front of the camera.

Boys might bring their favorite jacket, sports gear, or something that represents what they love. Girls often enjoy choosing outfits that show their style and personality. The goal is to capture authentic portraits that reflect exactly who they are right now.

Parents often tell me how surprised they are to see their child’s confidence shine through during the session. It becomes more than just taking pictures — it’s an experience that celebrates this stage of growing up.
